The Heart to Give
God has set various principles into being that, if applied, can help men and women tremendously. One of these principles is the law of giving. In Luke 6:38 (TPT), the word says, “give generously and generous gifts will be given back to you, shaken down to make room for more. Abundant gifts will pour out upon you with such an overflowing measure that it will run over the top! The measurement of your generosity becomes the measurement of your return.”
It is so important to break materialism off our our lives as believers. Without realising it we so easily fix our attention on the things of this world where moth and rust destroy. As a result, it has become secondary nature for man to hoard. However, when you store up your treasures in heaven and are able to give to the Lord through your tithe, seed, alms and offerings, you prove to the Lord that your trust is in Him alone. It is a way of showing the Lord that you love Him and you are passionate about the expansion of His Kingdom.
What is so powerful is that the seed holds the ability to multiply. According to, 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 “whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Therefore, although we do not give based on law but from a heart attitude towards the Lord, He always honours our seed with increase.
This heart for giving can be seen in how Abraham placed Isaac on the altar. Having trusted for his son for 25 years, Abraham honours the Lord by showing Him that nothing which he owns is withheld from or takes the place of God. This same heart for giving was shown by God as He sent us His only begotten son as a sacrifice for the ones He loves. In the same way, let us become men and women that give generously to the Lord. Not only will this honour the Lord and prove our love for Him but it will break materialism off our our lives and we will be set free to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, knowing that all else will be added unto us because of the law of giving.
