Devotional - Kingdom Power

Matthew 10

John the Baptist was a predecessor, a voice in the wilderness that had a burning message on his heart as he cried out “Prepare ye the way of the Lord”. The prophet Isaiah prophesied twice about this man that would come and be a voice to the nations. When everyone witnessed John doing so they questioned him and asked who he is, and what is his message. John informed them that he is simply a voice that has been sent to preach: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3:2). The message of the Kingdom of God being within our reach has been preached since that time yet so few truly grasp this revelation and experience the Kingdom the way it is intended for us. One day, as John was going about his mission baptising people in the Jordan river, Jesus showed up. John proclaimed, “Behold the Lamb of GOD which taketh away the sin of the world”. John then baptized Jesus and Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus then went into the desert where He tempted by the devil for forty days and forty nights. Hereafter, Jesus came back in the power of Holy Spirit, walked into the synagogue, opened the Book and said “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me” and he started preaching Matthew 4:17 “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Jesus message was the exact same as John’s. In Matthew 10, the word describes how Jesus called His twelve disciples and gave them power and authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of weakness and infirmity. In verse 7 Jesus says to them, “And as you go, preach saying ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’” So we see that Isiah prophesied about this message, John the Baptist preached this message, this was the message of Jesus and Jesus now summons His disciples and tells them to preach the same message, “Repent and believe for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This means that this message is of utmost importance, yet do we truly understand what this Kingdom is and how we tap into it. Romans 14:17 says, for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 4:20 says the following: “The kingdom of heaven is not in words but the kingdom is in power.” In 1 Corinthians 4:20 Paul says that he does not want to come to the people with eloquent words, but in power, “For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.” In the book of John chapter 3, Nicodemus says to Jesus that He must be the son of God for no man can perform such miracles unless God is with him. Jesus answered and said to him: “Verily, verily, I say unto you except the man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of GOD”. So Nicodemus asks Jesus about miracles and Jesus replies by talking about the Kingdom and that we can enter it if we are born of water and of the Spirit. This shows that miracles are a part of the Kingdom. Note how Jesus says that “if you’re born again you can enter the kingdom”. He did not say “You will enter the kingdom”. There are so many born again believers that have never tapped into the kingdom. They will go to heaven but they will not see heaven manifest on earth as Jesus prayed unless they understand that it is at hand, it is within their reach to experience the kingdom. This means it is within reach to have authority and power over sickness, disease and demons. Remember, in Matthew 6 Jesus taught us how to pray: “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.” The kingdom of God is waiting for sons and daughters to understand that we have been given the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:19). We have been saved and set free to walk in the full power of Holy Spirt and be used by God to manifest His kingdom here on earth by healing the sick, cleansing the lepers, raising the dead, casting out devils, and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. We were not only saved to go to heaven but to rule and reign on this earth and walk in power and authority as believers. To walk in this reality, you simply have to realise that you have been seated with Christ in heavenly places and the same power which raised Christ from the dead now lives in you. You have become the temple of the Holy Spirit and the Christ in you, the hope of Glory, wants you to yield to Him and let him move through you. You are in Him and the fulness of the Godhead bodily lives in you. You have become one with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and He has given you all authority in heaven and on earth. As you have received Him, so walk in Him and see His kingdom manifest on earth as it is in heaven.
